What’s Up DC?

September 28th, 2010 by Kathryn · Blog, Uncategorized

This weeks award for best DC film event goes too… The All Roads Film Project. The film festival is sponsored by DC based National Geographic. All films in the festival highlight minority and indigenous cultures around the world.

Selections include:

The film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and was a smash hit in New Zealand.

I Am Happy: the 2010 doc follows minority children in Rio of the course of two years. Filmmakers show that human spirit and friendship can emerge even amongst economic hardship. Nat Geo is sponsoring the world premiere of the event and tickets are free.

The 90′s Return to Fashion Week

September 27th, 2010 by Kathryn · Blog, Uncategorized

The 90′s are back. Beanie caps. Grunge flannel shirts. Tees layered under sliky slip dresses. Thick socks with sandals. Thin braids hanging from long lanky hair.

These quintessential 90′s must-haves are now evolving from the OJBG wardrobe closest to the high fashion runways of New York. Last week, up and coming designer Charlotte Ronson sent out a 90′s themed Spring 2011 runway collection sending us all on a nostalgic trip back to the era of grunge, floral prints and hoodies.

Set to the soundtrack of relaxed 90′s hits by the designer’s DJ sister Samantha Ronson (famous for her tryst with a certain Lindsay Lohan), the collection full of mixed matched florals and faux army cargo pants mixed the girly pieces with relaxed grungy elements creating a harmonizing mix of past and present styles.

Hide and Go Seek

September 27th, 2010 by Kathryn · Blog, Uncategorized

We came…We conquered…And we covered ourselves in shaving cream, toilet paper and raw eggs. Just another day at OJBG headquarters? Nope.

Last weekend, Bake Sale (formerly known as Las Hermanas) graced us in their presence to film their first music video for their single, “Hide and Go Seek.”

The concept was simple, Bake Sale and its three musicians, Kate, Jill and Julian, play a concert on the Spanish Steps; bringing their indie garage rock to the party goers of Dupont, swaying slightly as they clink their red cups in tune to the surf influenced music.

However, best friends Alex, Remi and Tamsin have others ideas. They are just not okay with Bake Sale wasting their creative genius on a crowd of such blank faced losers. So they devise a plan.

Part 1- Kidnap the Band.

Part 2- Grab multiple rolls of TP and their parent’s car and go crazy.

Part 3- Find narrow back alley and release their artistic creative by painting masterpieces…in shaving cream.

Part 4- Cover each other in the shaving cream and throw eggs EVERYWHERE!!!

Final Goal- Show the band what it’s like to truly have fun. Mission Accomplished.

Thanks again for Las Hermanas/Bake Sale and all the cast and crew that made the shoot an amazing success.

Look out for the music video shortly. In the mean time, you can all check out Las Hermanas at OJBG’s very own concert premiering during Season 3 of the show.

Once upon a time everyone was a teen…

September 24th, 2010 by Kathryn · 20something, Blog, grunge, music, Uncategorized

At one point in time, everyone was a hormone filled teenager, spending their summers head-bopping at indie rock concerts and working on their tan lines at city pools.

Everyone, including President Barack Obama.

Summer’s Officially Over

September 10th, 2010 by Kathryn · 90's, Bishop's Garden, Blog, DC

It’s done. Terminated. Finished. Wrapped.  Summer 2010 has finally culminated. For us at OJBG, that means the end of our sweat-filled, sleep deprived filming of Season Three.  Though our minds our still trapped in the 90s, we have returned to the present day and to the blogosphere world where we are readying ourselves for the EPIC, LARGER THAN LIFE, and sure to be a little JANKY Season 3 premiere. Stay tuned! Until then, keep checking back for more amazing stories on all things 90′s, DC and film related. To depart, I leave you with a parting shot of summer.  Made even more appropriate with a well-worn pair of Chucks filling the foreground.

Christy Turlington. SupahMawdles. The 90s.

September 1st, 2010 by emily · 90's, Blog, film

Okay, so I recently unearthed this gem of a flick called “Catwalk”. I mean, it’s not heartbreaking, tragic or super enlightening and most might find it quite boring… but I thing a gaggle of you will be just as intrigued. It’s one thing to remember how you looked in the 90s but it’s quite another to remember that supermodels like Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss looked, uh… just the same (plus or minus a perfect nose and pouty lips). Plus, you take a trip to Paris and Milan with the beautiful waifs who, if you’ll notice, aren’t that waifish. This video is deliciously dated and you should at least watch Pt. 1 (all can be found on YouTube). I mean look at the international supermodel with her… whatever that is.

Look, even Christy Turlington looked like she walked out of a Seinfeld episode :)

This looks good, no? This moment just killed me.

I do my little turn on the catwalk… Sorry. Right Said Fred circa 1992 has been playing in my head this whole time.
