Gorge thyself: DC Restaurant Week

August 18th, 2010 by emily · Blog, DC, Events, Going-out-guide, Uncategorized, washingtonian, washingtonians

RESTAURANT WEEK IN DC!! Aug. 16- 22, 2010.

Don’t miss it you hungry DCity book worms and workaholics. This is a fabulous time of year. A three course lunch for $20.10 or dinner for $35.10?

Get your grub on. Make your reservation now on Open Table peeps. Everyone else is salivating too. This city ain’t that big, not for all those taste buds.

Emily’s pick (yes, you care what I think): Oyamel on 7th St. Mexican Cuisine: Tapas Style

It’s normally crowded, so for restaurant week I assume you’ll have to claw your way in. I’ve been growing my nails out for a week now. Last time I went we squeezed our way in and sat at the ceviche bar. This is what I found. Who’s crazy now?

The Ceviche de atun Pacifico is madness. So is the made-at-your-table-guac. Go… eat… drink… be <insert adjective>

Dazed and Confused Issue 2

August 13th, 2010 by Kathryn · Blog, Uncategorized

Kathryn here…bringing you the latest Hollywood news.  BREAKING NEWS- Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian were seen frolicking in the Bahamas surf…

Bieber and Kardashian were also photographed having an impromptu photoshoot…

In another one Bieber also appears to be eating a rose…

Scnadelous!?!?! A new May-December romace!?!?! As IF!!! The photos were a part of a Graduate themed photo shoot for Elle Magazine. However, the pairing of the two C-list celebs is a tad odd and uncomfortable??

In other news, Joseph Gordon-Levitt again proved why he is our current obsession. Just when he appears to be selling out and going Hollywood mainstream (we still quite havn’t forgiven him for Gi:Joe) he takes the time to star in a quirky indie short.  The retro six minute long clip entitled Morgan and Destiny’s Eleventeenth Date premiered at the South by Southwest  earlier this month and just went viral. In it, Gordon-Levitt fights Channing Tatum for the true heart of his lady love. The vintage clothing and animated graphics mesh with the old world dialogue straight out of the Jabberwocky. Be patient with the words, eventually it will hypnotise you into a I Heart Joseph Gordon-Levitt dream state. Enjoy!

In closing, I leave you with a humorous reminder of how our childhood photos can come back to haunt us all. Your welcome Jake Glyllenhaal.

The District Line

August 12th, 2010 by Kathryn · 20something, Blog, DC, Events, Going-out-guide, washingtonian, washingtonians

THE LATEST NEWS, STORES, PHOTES and LINKS from DC!

- Temporium isn’t your typical over-priced and exclusive boutique and it isn’t an average mom and pop clothing store. Instead, the newest DC fashion marketplace is a pop up boutique that is part clothing store, part hip wi-fi coffee joint and part quirky music lounge. Located in the former R.L. Christian Library, the space highlights local designers and allows them a venue to pawn their goods from home-made jewelry to hipster graphic tees to avant-garde menswear. Each day brings a continued variety of designers and items and on weekends, the boutique and lounge merge allowing for browsing of the racks while DJs spin in the background. Be sure to catch Temporium this weekend as its month long run closes on August 15. Check out temporiumdc.com for more details and read the WashPo article describing their owners.

- Many DC residents have been nearly side-swiped by a rogue bike messenger careening down epic DC hills with their messenger bag swung over their shoulder as they compete for valuable road space with an irrate cab driver. This new DC blog “The Life of a DC Courier and Lindy Hopper” pulls back the curtain to reveal a different perspective on the bike wielding delivery men. The blog includes valuable and humorous insights including DC’s newest and greatest nickname- “The Toilet Bowl.”

- Following last weekend’s metro brawl involving 70 plus DC teens, Washington Post writers spent the night in Chinatown chronicling and observing the lives of its inhabitants from the loiterers to the bored teens to the gun-toting security guards. The vignettes entitled “After the Brawl” are short, but entertaining and revealing. My favorite includes the job description of the Chipotle security guard, whose sole duty includes guarding the soda fountain from teens sneaking lemonade into their free water cups!!

Kings Of Leon in Concert

August 11th, 2010 by The OJBG Team · 20something, Blog, Events, Going-out-guide, music, Uncategorized

by Chris

This is an entry that may just make me tickle but it has to be done. I am still running on a particular buzz, the kind that only comes from dancing your feet sore, singing your voice hoarse and throwing your panties on the stage. I went to a concert people. One of the better live shows ive been to all year. The Kings of Leon preformed this weekend at Jiffy Lube Live in VA. It was a nice night, cool air, and cold overpriced beer . To be clear, my love for KoL started in late 2003..i was finishing my senior in high school and my little sister told me about this awesome band i would love… dammit she was right..Youth and Manhood built the fondation…

but Aha Shake Heartbreak became the record the got more than 86 song play counts on repeat..i also used it to recruit my roommates..hell everyone i knew to their ‘epicness’.

It has been an amazing journey musically ..every record growing and maturing, sounding better than the last. They surpirsed us by playing a new song live for the first time and it excites me for their future…

here is the music video that made me fall in love…
