Chucks, Cons, Connies, All Stars

March 22nd, 2010 by The OJBG Team · 90's, Blog, grunge

Classic foot candy, even for those who drool over Louboutins and Manolos. Chucks were born in 1917 and were on evvvveryones’ feet in the 90s thanks to the grunge/punk/rock thang fueled by music legends like Kurt Cobain. These canvas and rubber concoctions have stood the test of time, fashion’s ever changing standard of style, and will probably keep on keepin’ on for years to come. The proof isn’t in the pudding, it’s on the feet of cool cats and fashionistas that rock the wardrobe staple. The popular fashion photographer and blogger behind The Sartorialist shot this chickadee in hers.

Need more proof? They have some really cool designer editions… and by cool, we mean super cool. They might empty your pockets but the price tag, around $200, will teach you a lesson worth learning if you plan on having super cool things in your super cool closet. The Vena Cava duo created a great hand drawn version for Converse RED and the Missoni creations are said to hit stores April 2010.

An article dedicated to the iconic shoe gave a few examples of just how attached some are to their Chucks reads,

“On May 31, 1986, Doc Rivers was married in them — high-top pink ones, to match his bride Chris Campion’s wedding gown. On Nov. 21, 2000, Hosea Williams was buried in them — high-top red ones, to complement his blue denim bib overalls and red shirt as the Atlanta civil rights activist lay in state. And one starry night, Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points while wearing the greatest basketball shoe of all time.” via chucksconnection.com

If you’re cool, you’re cool.

PS If you don’t have your own beloved pair (we do) then happy hunting for the perfect ones :)

Bullies

March 8th, 2010 by The OJBG Team · Blog, teen web series, Uncategorized, webseries

Koldcast.tv put together a great timeline – one the recaps the baddest that made their onscreen prey the saddest. AND… there’s a shout out to OJ! Check it out here.

Bullies come and go. Some are worse than others but they all have one thing in common. They’re memorable. If your younger years were shortened by wedgies or cruel and unusual nicknames, hopefully, they don’t come back to haunt you nightly. (Yes, we said shortened. If a cig takes 30 seconds off your life, it’s likely one run in with a bona-fide meanie-pie will do the same.) If they are squashing your dreams, perhaps you’re in need of a dream catcher?

It’s hard to ignore bullies, we know. Usually your options are slim. You can suck it up or…. uh, run.
