Hedi Slimane’s recent decision to change the name of the ready-to-wear line Yves Saint Laurent to Saint Laurent Paris was a confusing and highly criticized decision, especially because the fashion line is known for its classic ‘YSL’ logo.
The creative director may have made some questionable decisions after taking over Saint Laurent Paris but he deserves praise for shooting the Autumn/Winter 2013 campaign feature grungy rockers Courtney Love and Marilyn Manson.
The musicians styled themselves for the campaign as part of the ‘Saint Laurent Music Project’ for the autumn/winter 2013 campaign. Love, who is captured in one of the campaign photographs wearing a white fur coat with a tiara, commented that Slimane is a “genius” for his authentic interpretation of how rockers dressed in the nineties. The juxtaposition between the fashion line’s signature elegant style and the rocker’s grungy, care-free vibe make for a fresh and interesting campaign.
