Borne Ceaselessly into the Past… RIP Fitzgerald

Last month’s release of “The Great Gatsby (2013)” reignited America’s love affair with F. Scott Fitzgerald, doubling the percentage of his e-book sales in only a month.

If you are a fan of Fitzgerald and a DC resident, his grave is located at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rockville, MD. Inscribed on Fitzgerald’s tombstone is the powerful last sentence of his book: “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the Past.”

Also inscribed on his tombstone is Fitzgerald’s full name, Francis Scott Key; His namesake, writer of the “Star Spangled Banner” was a distant cousin and a Maryland native.

We also recommend watching the film at the newly renovated Bethesda Row Cinema; the theater is next to an ice cream shop and is surrounded by trees wrapped in Christmas lights, making it the perfect place to watch a movie about a Jazz age romance.
