The Oscars Have Arrived

 By: Samantha

Ladies and Gentleman, the ultimate evening of televised glitz, glamour, beauty, and infamous golden statues is only a couple of days away. In an effort to prepare for the grandest night in cinema, I thought it best to review the nominees for each category as well as share my predictions of who will be going home with the statue Sunday night.

Best Picture:

The Artist: WINNER

The Descendants

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Midnight in Paris

The Tree of Life

War Horse

The world has actually peed their pants over this film. Honestly, I have not gotten the chance to see it and I am actually a tad bit bitter toward it considering I am actually in love with The Help. Although it was not nominated for a Golden Globe, I have an odd inkling it will sweep the Oscars this year.

Actor in a Leading Role:

Demián Bichir

George Clooney: WINNER

Gary Oldman

Brad Pitt

He won the Golden Globe for his performance of an ill-fated father and husband with a teenage daughter that actually despises him in The Descendants. I feel so bad for the guy that the only thing to reconcile his misfortune would be to give him the Oscar.

Actress in a Leading Role:

Glenn Close

Rooney Mara

Meryl Streep

Michelle Williams: WINNER

Michelle also won the Golden Globe for her performance of the sexpot Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn. However, Rooney Mara is now in the rankings for an Oscar even though they snubbed her for a Golden Globe nomination, so this category is a bit tricky as of now. Yet, I still think Williams will take home her first Golden Man on Sunday. I just thought Viola Davis was absolutely wonderful in The Help, so I shall award her with an honorable mention.
